Boy Scouts Hold Outdoor Activities

Posted
With the summer-like weather, Boy Scout Troop 715 held a Saturday afternoon session to teach several scouting skills.

Before any of the activities were started, the safe use of each piece of equipment was stressed. Dan Nelson reviewed the different parts of the bow and arrow before the boys shot at the target.

Bob Friddle and Robert Lee explained the difference between a rifle and a shotgun, plus cartridge and shell. Then the Scouts tried their skills at shooting each type.

Dan Gast taught the skills needed for good fishing. They reviewed lures and other forms of bait, lines, poles, hooks and knots.

David Zigon worked with the Scouts on fire building and how to make rain/waterproof fire starters. The skill of using a two-man crosscut saw was demonstrated and the Scouts had fun cutting down a dead tree. Dick McCleary provided sloppyjoes, chips and drink.

Special guests were Webelos Scouts Austin Whitaker, Justin Lee, Cole Smith, Rob Morehouse and Mathew Slannery, and Cub Scout Leaders Chris and David Morehouse.

Scouts from Troop 715 attending were Adam Becker, Taylor and David Zigon, Brandon Lee, Kyle Smith, Jordan Friddle, Jeremy Meadows, Mike Meadows and Cameron Carter. Other adult troop leaders helping were Bill Becker and Mark Meadows.
