Warsaw's Board of Works records dating from 1935 to 2003 been scanned to a compact disk format. Melody Barker, owner, and Geroge Paiva, director of customer services, gave a short demonstration at Friday's board meeting.

Paiva said each $15 CD includes the viewing software, a tutorial and searching ability.

Approval for the scanning was given in April. More than 3,000 pages of official minutes are loaded on the disc. The company scanned them at a cost of 15 cents per page. The CDs are available at Barker Archives for $15.

Older, bound archival books, in very fragile condition, could be photographed at a cost of 96 cents per page if kept in the books. Or they could be removed and scanned at the lesser price, but the city would have to pay to rebind the books. No decision has been made on transferring the older books or the council minutes to electronic data.

The board also:

Reviewed a list of items - employee uniforms, shop towels, mop heads and mats or rugs - to be accepted in sealed quotes.

Reviewed a list of companies with projects requiring bonds or letters of credit. Amounts and expiration dates also were given. They are: for McElroy Hill business park, Ray and Diane Plummer, a $150,000 bond expiring April 2005; Anchorage Bay subdivision, Anchorage Bay LLC, a $50,000 letter of credit expiring October 2004; Harrison Landing subdivision, Biggs Inc., a $425,000 letter of credit expiring November 2004; and Pheasant Ridge subdivision, Jackson Development Corp., a $50,000 letter of credit expiring August 2004.

Approved job descriptions and job postings for the following departments, as requested by human resources director Jennifer Whitaker: clerical positions for the building and planning, clerk-treasurer, mayor, street department, cemetery, human resources, park and recreation and wastewater utilities.

Switched to a Lafayette Life for the city's group life, AD&D and long term disability insurance policies for a savings of $2,500 per year.

Approved receipt of a $14,300 STOP violence against women grant and one for $37,039 for victims assistance as provided by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

Reviewed hourly rates provided by Triad Engineering Inc. for their employees. Elaine Call said "If we get a bill that doesn't match the rates, we just get new rates."

Approved the employment of Mike May and Jason Shepherd.

Board of works members are Major Ernie Wiggins, Jerry Patterson and Charlie Smith.
