BOW Reviews Bids For Pump Station Force Main Project

Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety reviewed two bids for a project to install a Center Street Pump Station Force main  during its meeting Friday.
The board reviewed bids from Phend & Brown and Allstar Friday and will take the bids under advisement.
The board previously reviewed bids for the project at its Oct. 21 meeting,
During the October meeting, it decided to rebid the project since both the base and alternate bids came in significantly higher that the engineer’s estimate for the project from all of the four contractors.
In other business, the board approved a request from Warsaw Street Department to replace a 1986 Ford with 150,000 miles. The truck is used for a salt truck, and is corroded and rusted to the point it can no longer be used.
The board approved the city purchasing a 1995 Ford for $13,195 from Selking International, Fort Wayne.
The board approved a contract between the city and Duperon Corp. for $158,000 to purchase a mechanical screen washer. The piece of equipment will screen out debris.
The board also approved a contract between the city and AirWorx Construction Equipment & Supply for purchasing a 2001 man lift for building maintenance to the wastewater plant 2.
The board approved a release of liens request by Warsaw Housing Authority at 942 E. Sheridan St., 1011 E. Fort Wayne St. and 2111 E. Hendricks St.
The board opened supply bids for 2012 for limestone, ready mix concrete, flowable backfill material, bituminous material, concrete curbing and concrete flatwork.
The board will take bids under advisement and approve contracts at its Nov. 18 meeting.
The board also approved a memorandum of understanding for ice-melting materials between Warsaw Community Schools and the city.
The city will obtain materials through a competitive bidding process, and the city will store WCS materials at the street department storage facility.
The city’s vendors for salt and additives will invoice WCS directly for the cost of materials ordered and used by the city.
