Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety approved the resignation of Warsaw Police Department Patrolman Al Dials this morning.
Warsaw Human Resources Director Jennifer Whitaker submitted the resignation letter to the board for approval.
Whitaker said she and Warsaw Police Chief Scott Whitaker received Dials' resignation letter late Wednesday afternoon. In Dials' letter he stated, "Due to medical reasons, I wish to resign as patrol officer at the police department."
Dials has served as patrol officer since his hire date, Jan. 1, 1991.
Dials is currently off on approved family medical leave because of a medical condition.
After family medical leave and any other leave conditions are exhausted, Dials' last day for pension or payroll will be April 29.
Dials will not be returning to duty in the mean time. WPD will not replace Dials' position until after his last day in April.
Whitaker said WPD is currently in the process in which applicants interested in becoming a patrol officer enter into a hiring pool.
To qualify to continue in the pool of applicants, those interested in applying for the position should submit an application to the city's human resources department located in the city building, and pass written and physical agility tests.
After that is completed, the interview process will begin.
Applications will be accepted until Feb. 12 with plans for the hiring board to select a qualified candidate from the applicant pool.
