Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety Friday approved several contracts for the Warsaw Police Department.
The board approved a $2,000 contract between Harley Davidson, Valparaiso, and the Warsaw Police Department for a one-year lease for the department to lease a Harley Davidson motorcycle for patrol duties.
Police Chief Perry Hunter requested the board approve the contract. He said the motorcycle will be used in the city to allow officers to maneuver to get to accidents more quickly.
The board also approved a contract between WPD and Comcast to allow the department to establish service with the Internet service provider and also receive cable television access.
WPD Lt. Bret Richardson requested the contract and said the department would like to switch from its current Internet service provider to Comcast to increase its bandwidth.
Richardson said the purpose of having cable television in the police station is to allow the department to have access to world and local news.
The board also:
n Approved an $8,926.22 contract between Embarq and WPD for a new phone system.
n Approved a $1,605.36 contract between Embarq and WPD for a 36-month phone equipment service agreement.
n Approved a $5,532.53 contract between Embarq and city hall, park, cemetery and aviation departments for telephone equipment upgrades.
n Tabled a request for a contract for a rental sandbag storage facility for further discussion.
n Approved contracts for the Warsaw Parks Department summer concert series at Central Park
The contracts included a $400 contract for Kevin Roberts Entertainment Agency Inc. for commission received for the Classic Rock concert opener June 20; $4,000 contract for Phil Dirt & The Dozers to open for the Classic Rock concert; $34,500 for Tanya Tucker to perform during the Country Concert July 25; $4,025 contract with Mississippi Heat to perform at the Blues & Barbecue concert July 11; and a contract totaling $6,900 for Chris Duarte to perform at the Blues & Barbecue concert.
