BOW Approves WPD Purchasing 5 Vehicles

Board of Public Works and Safety approved for the Warsaw Police Department to purchase five police vehicles during its meeting Friday.
Scott Whitaker, Warsaw police chief, requested to purchase three 2012 Chevrolet Tahoes and two 2013 Caprice patrol unit vehicles from Kelley Chevrolet, Fort Wayne.
The police department’s 2013 budget supports the purchase of the five vehicles. The cost for the five vehicles is $125,087.85.
The purchase will be made from the following appropriations: $85,087.85 from police machinery and equipment; $27,500 from the motor vehicle highway fund; and $12,500 from the law continuing education fund.
There will be seven vehicles that will be traded in to Kelley Chevrolet.
Also during the meeting, Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer swore in Justin Miller, who will serve as a Warsaw-Wayne Township firefighter. Miller replaces Mark Howard, who retired at the end of 2011.
Miller’s father, Ken, who is a lieutenant for Notre Dame Fire Department, pinned a badge on his son during Friday’s swearing-in ceremony.
“We appreciate the commitment Justin has made to this community,” Thallemer said.
In other business, the board approved a $38,901.60 payment to Harold McComb & Son for work done on the new city hall.
The board approved a $3,518.98 change order for installation of a sewer line. The board also approved a $57,510.98 payment to G&G Hauling for sewer line replacement at 794 W. Center St.
The board approved several parks department contracts.
The board approved a $787.50 contract with Our Father’s House for the annual Daddy’s Little Sweetheart Dance, which is Feb. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m..
Other contracts approved were a $1,050 contract with Our Father’s House for catering for Brunch With The Bunny; and a $525 contract with Our Father’s House for catering for a Girls Night Out, which is June 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Center Lake Pavilion.
The board approved an annual contract for $75,000 to be put into the 2013 Wayne Township budget to be paid by Wayne Township to the city for services Warsaw Parks Department provides.
The board approved a contract between the Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory and Green, Cates & Grossnickle for 2013 legal services.
The board approved street closures for First Friday Feb. 1.
The street closures include the 100th block of north and south of Center Street and East and West Buffalo streets closing all months except in August and October when the road closures will be extended to the 200th block of Center to Lake to Indiana and Market streets.
The board also approved street closures on Center and Buffalo streets May 19 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club City of Lakes Cruise In.
The board approved Lacy Francis, Warsaw street superintendent, seeking quotes to repair a storm drain on West Market Street from South Pine Street west to the Center and Market streets intersection.
This is one of the phases required to complete the storm water repair of West Market Street.
The board approved the Warsaw Wastewater Treatment Utility Facility purchasing a $339,128 sewer cleaning truck from Brown Equipment Co.
Also approved was a $7,539.85 contract with Precision Computer for the city to purchase and install multimedia projectors at the new city hall.
