Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety approved a Warsaw Police Department promotion during Friday’s meeting. The board approved Paul Heaton being promoted from patrolman to the detective position. His bi-weekly salary is $1,762.63. Heaton was hired as a patrolman with WPD in June 2009. In other business, the board approved a contract with the city and Umbaugh and Associates for the city to proceed obtaining a bond to complete the closing of the former wastewater treatment plant at Boggs Addition. The board also approved a time extension until Sept. 10 for the city to begin initiating liquidated damages at a set rate by the contract of $600 per day through the completion of the wastewater treatment plant. A project superintendent was not on site until Aug. 9 at the new wastewater treatment plant that is being built off CR 150W, Brian Davidson, Wastewater Treatment Utility facility manager, said. This was four weeks after the time extension for the project. The board approved a street closure request for First Friday for Center Street from Lake to Washington Street be closed Oct. 7 and 8. There will be a beer tent for the annual Oktoberfest from 3 to 11:59 p.m. The board also approved Warsaw Parks Department applying for a Kosciusko County Community Foundation grant for $6,300 that would allow the parks department to purchase six canoes and a variety of adult and children’s paddles for programming and public use.In other business, the board: – Approved a request by Warsaw Parks Department for $26,480 in event cancellation insurance for the country music concert that was scheduled to be July 22. – Approved a $5,100 contract between Warsaw Parks Department and Hoffman Outdoor Power Equipment Inc. for the department to purchase a mower. – Approved a request from the street department to purchase a 1999 GMC truck to replace a 1988 International with 394,017 miles.
