BOW Approves Vehicle Purchases, Opens Bids For Sewage Project

Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety approved two utility vehicle purchases for the Warsaw-Wayne Township fire territory during Friday’s meeting.
The board approved the fire territory purchasing two utility vehicles from Lakeside Chevrolet, including a Tahoe Expedition that will replace a 2004 Chevy Silverado assigned to the fire inspector.
The board also approved the territory purchasing a crew cab truck that will replace a 1996 Sierra truck housed at Station 1.
The vehicles have been budgeted for 2011 in the fire department’s equipment replacement fund, according to Mike Rice, Warsaw fire chief.
The board approved a utility easement agreement between Superior Developing and the city of Warsaw for usage of right of way.
The board also opened bids for the second phase of the city’s sewage project.
The second phase is to install a force main at the Center Street pump station.
The board reviewed four bids, and will have 90 days to take the bids under advisement.
The board also reviewed six proposals for the city purchasing a screen, washer and compactor system for the Center Street pump station.
The board approved closing Buffalo Street between Main and Market streets and Center Street between Lake and Indiana Streets on Oct. 28 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. for downtown Spooktacular.The board approved Michelle Boxell serving as a park board member, replacing Toby Sumpter, and a six-month salary review for Brent Fifer, Warsaw Fire Department firefighter.
The board approved a billing adjustment for wastewater for Warsaw Community Church from July 19 to Aug. 19.
During this time the church was watering newly planted trees. The church requested the bill be reduced to the average monthly usage since most of the water used did not go into the sewer. The board approved a $268.47 credit.
The board approved a deed of dedication for Sheldon Street and Petro Drive.
At the end of the meeting, Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins expressed condolences to the family of Rob Gast Jr., who died Wednesday night when his motorcycle hit a deer Tuesday night.
