Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety Friday approved a temporary left-turn restriction at Center and Parker streets.
The project manager and engineers for the Argonne Road and Parker Street re-alignment project requested to restrict the left turn onto Parker Street from eastbound Center Street.The board also approved a request from Warsaw Community Development Corp. for the temporary closure of Market Street between Buffalo and Lake streets today from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. as part of Downtown Days.
The board also:
n Approved for Warsaw Police Dept. to apply for a $11,338 grant in federal funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to equip officers with tasers.
n Approved WPD to accept a $9,887 grant from the Kosciusko 21st Century Foundation. The funding will be used to purchase DARE materials for Warsaw Community Schools elementary and middle school programs.
n Approved WPD to apply for a $32,000 grant for aggressive driving enforcement for 2010. The project is an enforcement effort between law enforcement agencies to combat aggressive driving, red-light running and speeding.
n Approved the DUI Task Force to participate in a $30,0000 grant from the National Highway Transportation Governor's Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving. The grant will allow the task force to combat impaired driving.
n Approved WPD to apply for a $54,000 grant from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. The grant will pay officers overtime to enforce Indiana law for those not wearing seatbelts, impaired driving and child-restraint violations.
n Approved WPD to participate in a $73,000 grant with the National Highway Transportation Safety Commission to investigate and prosecute fatality and serious bodily injury traffic accidents that involve alcohol, drug or reckless driving.
n Approved a volunteer agreement between Warsaw Parks Department and United Way of Kosciusko County for United Way to design, implement and maintain a system to promote volunteerism in the county.
n Approved Warsaw Fire Department to accept a $2,000 grant from the Kosciusko County Community Foundation. The grant will be used to support the annual Play it Safe Family Safety Day Sept. 19 at Central Park and Center Lake Pavilion.
n Approved a $7,699 contract between Warsaw Parks Department and Gilsinger Implement Co. for the department to purchase a lawn tractor with a mower deck and snow plow.
n Approved a $53,987 contract between Warsaw Parks Department and Macdonald Machinery Co. for the department to purchase a tractor loader.
n Approved Travis O'Neill to serve as a storm water coordinator at the Warsaw wastewater treatment utility facility.
