BOW Approves Police DUI Taskforce Grant

Posted

Members of Warsaw's Board of Public Works and Safety heard reports from the police department Friday in regards to the renewal of an Indiana DUI Taskforce grant totaling $29,150.

Funding will be provided to the Winona Lake Police Department, which, after the BOW's approval, will collaborate with the Warsaw Police Department to disburse adequate amounts between both agencies. The grant is in association with Operation Pull-Over, which requires officers to work selective patrols in efforts to detect and apprehend impaired drivers.

In fire department issues, board members approved a contract with Phend and Brown for a paving project for the department's 2204 E. Center St. location. Efforts from the street department helped to reduce the total cost of the project, which now totals $4,017.

A fire department request to renew a maintenance agreement for a copy machine also was approved Friday.

Travel request approvals were given to Warsaw Building Commissioner Todd Slabaugh and Building Inspector Roger Long, both of whom attended a structural class in Edinburgh Sept 21-22.

According to Human Resource Director Jennifer Whitaker, recent changes to Warsaw's travel policy required that documentation be updated in the city's records.

The board also approved four hirings into the street department's leaf crew. Mike Geisleman, Scott Frush, Dean Crampton and William Hansen all were assigned as laborers within the department. Charles Hodges, of the police department, was promoted to corporal as well.

Present members were Mayor Ernie Wiggins, Charlie Smith and Jerry Patterson. The next scheduled meeting is Nov. 18 in City Hall.
