Jerry Patterson and Charlie Smith met to discuss various departmental contracts during Friday's Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.
The Parks Department was granted three contracts, two involving preparations for this year's Central Park events.
The city agreed to pay Talking Stick Radio $4,327 for promotions of nine programs, including the classic rock and country concerts, Blues and BBQ and Celebraci-n Latina. An additional $9,300 agreement was made with Pro Audio Services, which will handle the lighting and sound equipment for the events.
Also approved was a service agreement with TruGreen ChemLawn for tree and shrub care of Warsaw's three major parks. This contract, covering Central and McKinley parks and Kiddie Land, totaled $5,049.
The police department was granted to apply for funds from a Permanent Child Seat Inspection Location grant through the automotive safety program of Indiana University School of Medicine. If approved for the grant, the department would be able to use the monies towards a car inspection station, which would assist families in need of child safety seats.
Grant money also may be available for the city to be used for a downtown development grant program. An application will soon be submitted to the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns and will request $55,000 for a phase of a downtown streetscape project. The installation of greenery, proper trash receptacles and landscaping for public parking lots are included in the streetscape plan.
A request from the Warsaw Fire Department was passed, allowing the WFD to host an Oct. 7 Family Safety Day at Center Lake Park. The event has grown considerably over the years, with more than 500 participants during the 2005 event. Topics covered during the program will include fire safety and hands-on activities for the general public.
Mayor Ernie Wiggins attended an Indiana mayor's round-table discussion in Auburn Friday and was unable to meet with the board.
