Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety Friday approved a headliner for the Warsaw Parks Department’s Blues and Barbecue concert in Central Park in June. The board approved a $6,500 contract for blues and rock singer Theodore Joseph “Ted” Horowitz, who plays under the stage name Popa Chubby, to perform June 27 at 8 p.m. The board also approved a $1,000 contract for Justine Blazer Band to serve as the opening artist for the country music concert July 18 in Central Park. The board previously approved Blue Oyster Cult performing June 13 at Central Park for the Classic Rock Concert. Also during the meeting, Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer swore in Warsaw-Wayne Township Firefighter Drew Shilling. Shilling’s brother, Derek, who also serves on the Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory, pinned a firemen’s pin on Drew. The board also: • Approved a $4,860 grant from the Kosciusko County Convention, Recreation and Visitor Commission to fund a Ride and Walk website to highlight the city’s trail systems for bicycling and walking. • Approved maintenance agreements for Canon® copiers for the Warsaw Parks and Building and Planning departments, Warsaw Municipal Airport; and agreements for Canon® copier and laser printers for the Warsaw Wastewater Utility Treatment Utility department and the mayor and human resources departments. • Approved an agreement between the city and Kosciusko County Economic Development Corp. for the city to pay KEDCo. $50,000 for services it provides to the city. • Approved a three-year ice and snow road maintenance agreement between the city and county. • Approved part-time summer and season positions including two cemetery groundskeepers; 11 parks department laborers and campground employees; seven parks department recreation staff members; 17 parks department lifeguard staff; nine street laborers and a Warsaw Wastewater Treatment Utility maintenance laborer. • Approved a $6,075 payment to A & Z Engineering for right of way services for the Husky Trail road improvement project; and a a $14,055.40 payment to A & Z Engineering for preliminary engineering for the Husky Trail road improvement project.
