BOURBON - The Bourbon Youth Theatre presents "Casey At The Bat" on the Triton High School auditorium stage Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m.
Co-directed by Cole and Tom Eiser, the play is inspired by the poem.
The dramatic production centers around a "World Series" of games pitting the Casey-led Mudville team against the street-smart players from Dirtberg.
Mighty Casey's strike-out is illustrated with the 118-year-old poem.
But that's not the end of the story: There is another game to be played.
The Eiser brothers are working with a cast of elementary-school aged actors. Most of them are Destination Imagination team veterans and no strangers to public speaking.
Most of the cast also play softball or baseball, too, and their throwing, bat swinging and fielding seems like second nature.
The Bourbon Youth Theatre presentation is made possible through a Youth Venture grant. A Venture is for youngsters ages 12-20 who want to provide a positive benefit in a school, neighborhood or community. Up to $1,000 is available to these youth-led organizations.
"Casey at the Bat" is the first Bourbon Youth Theatre production. Plans are to expand next year.
Tickets are $3 and available from any cast member and at the door the night of the performances.
The cast includes: Matt Haney, Jeff Martin, Ryan Moorefield, Brad Miller, D.J. Schoolman, Jake Berger, Cody Schaetzle, Chris Chairez, Dathan Schoolman, Drew Fleagle, Brittney Frenger, Shana Anderson, Aly Slabaugh, Jeff Ross, Mollie Kauffman, Dayna Schoolman, Nikkii Snyder, Chrissi Schaetzle, Marissa Ross, Alec Sporner and Tommy Devros.
