Bourbon Marks 150 Years In August

BOURBON - The Bourbon Sesquicentennial celebration in August will feature more than a week of activities.

Aug. 9 will feature a hog roast from 4-7 p.m. at the Bourbon Park Pavilion. On Aug. 10, the Bourbon Historical Tour will be held from 1-6 p.m. This tour will feature four historical homes and one new home. Donations will be taken, with a percentage going to the Triton Scholarship Fund.

Other events are scheduled for Aug. 14-17.

The Miss Triton Sesquicentennial pageant for girls ages 6-13 is scheduled for Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at the park, under the direction of Kathryn Chapman Dreibelbis.

Events scheduled for Aug. 15 begin at noon with a three-on-three basketball tournament in the park for girls.

Events will continue that evening at Triton High School auditorium beginning at 6 p.m. Events planned are a dress review, under the direction of Nancy Martin; a beard contest, under the direction of Noah Lemler; and the auctioning of the quilt with more than 900 names and the hanging banners from downtown. The Grand Ole Couple, Grand Ole Lady and Grand Ole Man will be voted on and announced that evening, and the motto winners will be recognized. The evening will end with a movie downtown.

A "Living History Founding Fathers Cemetery Tour" is scheduled for a 1 p.m. Aug. 16 meeting at Bourbon United Methodist Church. Tour-goers will walk through Park Cemetery and learn about the history of Bourbon from people dressed up like outstanding citizens of the past. An art show is scheduled for 1-6 p.m. downtown in conjunction with the tour.

An antique quilt show will be held in the church's basement from 1-5 p.m. and a "Historical Neighborhood Tour" will meet at the church at 3 p.m.

Other events planned to take place in downtown Bourbon on the 16th include a pet parade, farmers' market with games for children and a parade at 11 a.m. The Bourbon Lions Club will be screening for glaucoma in the Emergency Medical Service building throughout the day.

Events scheduled to take place in the park on the 16th include a three-on-three basketball tournament for boys at 10 a.m., a Cutie King and Queen contest and baby photo contest at 1 p.m., a chili cook-off at 2 p.m., a baking contest at 3 p.m. and wrestling at 6:30 p.m.

Water ball at 1 p.m. and a pine car derby at 1:30 p.m. will be held at the Bourbon Fire Station.

At 7:30 p.m. a street dance will be held until 9 p.m. when a fireworks show is scheduled.

Festivities will continue on the 17th, with a car show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the high school field adjoining the park. At 2 p.m., the annual gospel sing will be held.
