BOURBON – A 6-year-old Bourbon boy was killed Tuesday after crashing a go-kart on a track at his home.
According to broadcast and published reports, emergency personnel were called around 5 p.m. Tuesday to a home in the 12000 block of Elm Road, Bourbon, where a young boy had flipped a go-kart on a make-shift race course on the property.
Six-year-old Kyle Pugh was pronounced dead at the scene by Marshall County Coroner Bill Clevenger.
Investigators said Pugh was riding the go-kart alone when it flipped. It is unclear how the kart flipped.
A family acquaintance told the Times-Union the boy’s father had been mowing on the property when he saw smoke coming from the track. After he arrived at the crashed go-kart, the source said as the father was attempting to pull the boy from the wreckage, the kart exploded.
Indiana Department of Natural Resource officials, who are handing the incident, said the case remains under investigation.
Marshall County Sheriff Tom Chamberlin said his county gives up jurisdiction to DNR for off-road vehicle crash investigations.
Calls for information about the accident to the DNR and law enforcement agencies were not returned ast of press time.
