AKRON – Bonnie M. Walters, 85, of Rochester, and formerly of Akron and the Gilead area, died at 3:38 a.m. Jan. 13, 2013, in Life Care Center, Rochester.
She was born April 13, 1927, in Miami County, to Andrew and Bessie Hinsey Funnell. On Oct. 2, 1943, in Peru, she married Donald “Pete” Walters, who died Oct. 10, 1988.
She was a cook at Gilead School, she worked at Chamberlain Products, Akron, the Grocery Store, Akron, and also at Wiles Apparel, Rochester, as well as being a homemaker. She attended Gilead School. She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and she also attended the Olive Branch Church of God. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards and board games, playing euchre with her small group, reading books and spending time with her grandchildren. She also really enjoyed going out to eat with her friends.
Surviving are two sons, Randall Walters, Kokomo, and Michael (and spouse Peggy) Walters, Rochester; five grandchildren: Kelly (and spouse Dr. Cameron) Vanlaningham, Troy (and spouse Becky) Walters, Rhonda, Regina and Rodney Walters; nine great-grandchildren: Justin, Jon, and James Walters, Luke, Logan, Laci and Leia Walters, Noah and Carly Vanlaningham, one sister, Nina Opple, Rochester; special family and neighbors, Gary and Sarah Hudson, Macy, Elodie (and spouse Dan) Grief and child Lauren, Carrie (and spouse Jon) Finch, Abbey (and spouse Josh) DePoy and children Kendall and Hayden, and a special friend, Rita Walters. She was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Kuntz, and great-granddaughter, Courtney Walters.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Michael McFarland officiating. Burial will be in Gilead Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
