Bonnie Jean SnipesMENTONE – Bonnie Jean Snipes, 87, of rural Rochester, passed at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, at White Oak Health Campus of Monticello.

Bonnie was born on Nov. 24, 1933, in Kosciusko County, to the late Donald L. and Stella Mae Wehrly Emmons. She was married on March 20, 1952 in Mentone, to William Donald Snipes, who preceded her in death on March 27, 2004.

Bonnie was a 1951 graduate of Mentone High School.  Bonnie and her husband Don owned and operated Snipes Mobile Feed, where she was the bookkeeper.  

She had been a past member of the Studebaker Drivers Club of South Bend, as well as the Blacktop Cruisers Car Club of Rochester. She served as a 4-H leader for many years with the Newcastle Happy Harvesters. She attended the Bethlehem Baptist Church of rural Rochester. Bonnie volunteered at Woodlawn Hospital and also worked at Dairy Queen both of Rochester. She was known as an avid euchre player at the Senior Center of Rochester.

She is survived by a daughter, Sherri; and husband, Doug Rutherford, of Decatur, Ill.; sons: Gary Snipes, of Rochester; and Terry and wife Diane Snipes, of Moline, Ill.; grandchildren: Christine, Erin, Dan, Stephanie, Greg, Josh and Cari; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Leroy “JR” and wife Geneva Emmons, of Sammamish, Wash.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; and infant son, Steven.

The funeral service will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2 at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Phil Pratt officiating.

The interment will take place in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone.

Visitation hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2 at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
