The bond for a man involved in a shooting incident Jan. 5 in Mentone was increased when he appeared in Kosciusko County Superior Court I Tuesday.
Danny Lee Hale, 51, of 11620 W. CR 600S, Mentone, was originally held on $20,000 bond for burglary to a permanent residence and intimidation with a deadly weapon. Tuesday, that was increased to $200,000 surety bond at the state's request.
Hale also was ordered to not possess a firearm, to stay out of Mentone except to pass through en route to another location and to have no direct or indirect contact with the victim.
According to a statement released by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office last week, Mentone Town Marshal Jim Eads asked Hale to get out of a pickup and "surrender to his authority, whereupon Danny L. Hale did get out of his vehicle armed with a sawed-off shotgun."
The statement also said Hale "repeatedly threatened to kill Town Marshal Eads and did draw his weapon, aiming it at said Marshal Eads. Marshal Eads then heard Danny L. Hale prepare said weapon for firing."
Eads then shot Hale several times with a .40 caliber pistol, his service weapon.
Hale was transported to Parkview Hospital, where he was treated for his wounds. He was released into the custody of Kosciusko County Sheriff's Detectives Thursday and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail shortly thereafter.
Hale, who according to witnesses had been drinking, went to the home of his ex-girlfriend's mother and threatened his ex-girlfriend, who had a restraining order against him.
According to witnesses, Hale entered the house and brandished the shotgun. Hale allegedly threatened three adults and two children inside the house before leaving.
Hale entered the home without permission and threatened to kiil three people inside, police reports indicate.
