INDIANAPOLIS - Warsaw Community High School graduate Alyssa Bolt is serving as a legislative intern in the Indiana Senate, watching firsthand as the drama unfolds this year at the Statehouse, said State Sen. Ryan Mishler (R-Bremen).

Bolt, daughter of Calvin and Debbie Bolt and Nancy Bolt, is one of 39 interns for the Senate Majority Caucus. She is a 2010 graduate of Taylor University with degrees in philosophy and history.

"Legislative interns like Alyssa witness discussions on balancing the state budget, education reform and job creation," Mishler said. "Not only do interns learn first-hand about the legislative process, they work alongside senators and legislative assistants in responding to constituent calls, letters and e-mails, as well as staffing Senate committees and assisting with actual floor proceedings. This provides them with valuable professional experience that they can apply throughout their careers."

Bolt is working as a legislative intern for the 117th session of the General Assembly with State Sens. Greg Walker (R-Columbus) and Carlin Yoder (R-Middlebury). Her internship with the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus will run the length of this legislative session, which continues through April 29.Mishler said applications for the Indiana Senate's 2012 internship program are due Oct. 15.
