Boggs Named Superintendent At Valley

Posted
AKRON - Tippecanoe Valley School Board did some rearranging Monday night, including naming Assistant Superintendent Brett Boggs as superintendent.

Superintendent Dr. Daniel Kramer will fill in as assistant superintendent as he can, board member Bryan Murphy said, but it hasn't been decided for how long.

Boggs said Kramer will continue with Valley Schools in the administration office. Boggs' appointment as superintendent is retroactive to July 1.

In the early morning of Sept. 12, 2007, Kramer suffered a serious heart attack. He was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, and then transported by air ambulance to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Kramer had blockage of an artery, and underwent heart catheterization. He was hospitalized until Sept. 18, and returned home at about 7:30 p.m.

Since Kramer's heart attack, Boggs has filled in for Kramer as superintendent.

Boggs, 52, a resident of Akron since 1978, is married to Sarah Hawley Boggs. They have three children and two grandsons.

Born in Warsaw, Brett Boggs is a 1974 Mentone High School graduate. He received his specialist in education degree from Ball State University in 2006, master's degree in elementary education from Manchester College in 1984 and his bachelor's degree in elementary education from Grace College in 1978.

He has been with Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. for 30 years, serving as assistant superintendent from 2005-08, Akron Elementary School principal from 1988 to 2005, assistant principal and athletic director of Akron School (K-8) from 1985 to 1988, and fourth-grade teacher and coach of junior high basketball and track at Akron from 1978 through 1985.

In comments from Boggs e-mailed to the Times-Union this morning, Boggs wrote, "I thank the Board of School Trustees for allowing me this opportunity and look forward to serving the Tippecanoe Valley community as superintendent of schools. As a lifetime resident of the communities of Akron and Mentone, the background knowledge and relationships developed over the years will be beneficial in our quest to make the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation the best it can be. Our focus must always be on doing what's best for the children entrusted to our care as we seek to help each young person learn and grow to their full potential. In working cooperatively with each child's parent/guardian and with the full support of the community, we can make this happen.

"The expectations I have for my personal performance, as well as for each and every Tippecanoe Valley employee, include a 'kids first' focus, 100 percent effort, and professionalism.

"I thank Dr. Kramer for the fine mentor he has been and the example he has provided for many years. I look forward to working with a strong administrative team, quality teachers, and dedicated instructional assistants, office staff, cooks, custodians, bus drivers, school nurses and everyone else who plays a vital role in the education of our children."
