Board Recognizes TVHS 4-H Students Competing NationallyAKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley School Board of Trustees recently recognized members of the high school’s 4-H program who have won a bid to national competition.

Four team members – Sidney Petersen, Amber Evans, Hayley Backus and Cheney Canada – along with advisor Michael Jones, were honored during the monthly board meeting Monday.

“This will be the first time in school history a soils team from Valley has made it to nationals,” said Superintendent Blaine Conley.

The team placed fifth at the state contest in Morgan County on Oct. 20. Students judged four sites: two agriculture sites and two home sites.

The teams were asked to determine nine physical properties and then design management practices for either agriculture or home use.

Competitions were divided into two divisions: 4-H and FFA. Only the top five teams in each advance to the national contest held in Oklahoma City during the last week in April and the first week in May.

The board also recognized the FFA team who finished 18th out of 51 teams. Team members included Makenzie Woodson, Brandt Alber, Sarah Kelley and Nicole Ziemek.
