WINONA LAKE - John Boal, Winona Lake, will be sworn in as the town council's District 1 representative. Boal replaces Craig Snow, who resigned in August because he moved from town.
According to Kosciusko County Republican Party Chairman Mike Gavin, Boal was the only person to give his name for consideration.
Because there was only one candidate, a scheduled caucus was canceled.
Boal will be sworn in as the new councilman tonight at the 6 p.m. council meeting.
A 1984 Grace College graduate, Bole is a native of Pennsylvania. His wife, Lyn, also is a 1984 graduate of the college. The couple returned to Kosciusko County in 1999 after living in southern California. They have two children, ages 8 and 7.
In March 2000, the Boals moved to Winona Lake, where he is chief advancement officer at Grace College. His main responsibilities are raising funds for the institution.
He has never held public office before.
"We love the community," Boal said Monday. "Serving on the council is an opportunity for me to be involved. I feel its a civic duty to serve."
Boal joins councilmen Jeff Carroll, David Delp and Rolly Ortega.
