Blues Legend B.B. King Returns To Honeywell Center

Posted
WABASH – 107.3 WRSW welcomes legendary bluesman B.B. King when he returns to the Honeywell Center in Wabash June 4 at 7:30 p.m.
Sponsor for the event is R.W. Kidd Construction. Mike Milligan and Steam Shovel will be the show opener.
Riley B. King was born on Sept. 16, 1925, on a cotton plantation in Itta Bene, Miss. He used to play on street corners for dimes, and would sometimes play in as many as four towns in one night. In 1947, with $2.50 in his pocket and his guitar in hand, he hitchhiked to Memphis, Tenn., to begin his musical career. His big break came in 1948 when he performed on Sonny Boy Williamson’s radio program, which led to steady engagements and radio appearances. Soon he needed a catchy radio name, and what started as Beale Street Blues Boy was shortened to Blues Boy King, and eventually B.B. King.
Today, King stands as the most famous blues musician around the world.  Over his career he has earned numerous awards, including two gold records, three platinum records, 23 Grammy Award nominations (winning the award 15 times), he is in four Halls of Fame, and has seven honorary doctorates. King continues to tour extensively around the world and averages 125 concerts a year, performing classics such as “Payin’ the Cost to be the Boss,” “The Thrill is Gone,” “How Blue Can You Get” and “Why I Sing the Blues.”
Tickets are $29, $49, $69 and $100, and may be purchased at the box office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, by calling 260-563-1102 or visiting www.honeywellcenter.org
