Blue's Hat Trick Leads Local Roundup

SOUTH WHITLEY – Led by Ellyanna Blue’s hat trick, the Whitko girls soccer team got a 4-0 home win over Woodlan Monday evening.
Blue got the scoring going with two-straight goals in the first half off assists from Sydney Sims, with Sims adding a goal of her own off a pass from Candice Swick.
The final score of the game was a familiar one, as Sims hit Blue for another goal.
The three-goal performance increasing Blue’s team-high total to 14 this season.
In their own goal, Jordan Hall posted nine saves for the Lady Wildcats, who improved their season record to 4-4-2.
Up next for Whitko is a Sept. 26 home game against Columbia City.

Monday in Syracuse
Hosting a Northern Lakes Conference match Monday, the Wawasee boys tennis team fell 4-1 against NorthWood. Wawasee’s point came at No. 1 singles, where Kyler Love got a 6-0, 6-2 win over Mitchell Keiser. The loss ended Wawasee’s NLC regular season at 0-7 as it now prepares for the NLC Tournament, beginning Wednesday at Concord.

In the team loss, Manchester’s Brayton Spann won at No. 3 singles, while the No. 2 doubles tandem of Morgan Metzger and Noah Cain was also victorious. Next up for the Squires is Thursday’s Three Rivers Conference match at Tippecanoe Valley.
