Blue Gate Theater Announces Cast For 'The Confession'

SHIPSHEWANA – “The Confession” musical, based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Beverly Lewis, will play through Aug. 18 and will feature the following cast of actors and singers assembled from all over the country.
The lead role of Katie Lapp will be played by Erica Smith, New York City based actress, originally from Roswell, Ga. Her regional theater credits include: “Medora” Musical (StageWest Entertainment), “Once in a Lifetime” (Alliance Theatre), “Aida” (Opera Birmingham) and “Tosca” (Opera Birmingham).
Katie’s best friend Mary Stoltzfus will be played by Carrie Greenberg, a Long Island native that comes to Indiana by way of West Virginia where she spent three seasons with Theatre West Virginia.
Katie’s parents, Samuel and Rebecca Lapp, will be played by Joshua Katzker, returning to “The Confession” after the show’s inaugural production in Bird In Hand, Pa., and Gloria Wallman, the actor who originated the role of Rebecca in the 2010 premiere.
Dan Fisher, Katie’s fiancé, will be played by Bobby Hall Jr., who has performed all over the country, including Dollywood in the Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and most recently Theatre West Virginia in his home state of West Virginia.
A native of Traverse City, Mich., and graduate with a bachelor’s of music in vocal performance from DePauw University School of Music, Jennifer Smith has been cast in the part of Laura Mayfield Bennett and the role of Laura’s husband, Dylan Bennett, has been filled by Brent Hildreth, a recent graduate from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC.
John A. Davis, a local from Sturgis, Mich., will return to the part of Fulton Taylor, a role he played in 2011. His wife, Rosie Taylor, will be played by another returning cast member, Jennifer Reber, a recent theater arts graduate from Bethel College.Rounding up the cast is Katy Hinson, native of South Carolina and a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s of music degree in vocal performance. Ashley will be Alyson Cairns, the New York City actress.
“The Confession” composer and director Wally Nason said, “I can’t wait to work with these very talented people. After auditioning over 3,000 actors around the U.S. for all three ‘Confession’ casts, I couldn’t be more excited about this team of professionals. It’s going to be a great show!”
The Blue Gate is a restaurant and theater complex located in Shipshewana. It is part of the Riegsecker Marketplace owned and operated by the Riegsecker family. Shipshewana is accessible via U.S. 20 or the 80/90 toll road exits 108 and 121 in Indiana.
