Bloomington Man Tosses Pot Out Window, Faces Multiple ChargesA Bloomington man was arrested Saturday in Leesburg after allegedly fleeing an officer and throwing a bag of marijuana out his car window.

Emmanuel Castillo, 25, Bloomington, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 11:51 p.m. Saturday for possession of marijuana, resisting law enforcement with use of a vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance, driving while a habitual traffic violator and obstruction of justice.

Court documents filed Monday list the resisting law enforcement charge as a level 6 felony; obstruction of justice a level 6 felony; and possession of marijuana a Class B misdemeanor. Information on the other charges against Castillo was not available as of this morning.

His preliminary bond was set at $5,000 surety and $250 cash.

At around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Claypool Police officer Ben Sanders saw a black 2009 Audi with its motor running and its lights out while parked on Hickory Street. The vehicle’s interior light turned on and off several times.

Sanders approached the Audi and activated his squad car’s emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. The headlights on the Audi came on and vehicle sped off. The car attempted to evade Sanders, driving on Leesburg streets for about a half mile.

Sanders saw a clear plastic bag thrown out of the passenger-side window of the Audi and land in a lawn on Prairie Street. The Audi then pulled over and stopped.

Sanders took the driver, Castillo, into custody. Sanders smelled marijuana coming from Castillo’s vehicle and his eyes were red and watery. Castillo told Sanders he had smoked marijuana earlier in the day.

Castillo refused to take a certified chemical test so Sanders sought and received a search warrant for a blood and urine sample.
