People often speak of "life-changing" moments.
Often times those sort of moments change the way a person acts or feels for a while but then it fades.
For Scott Blevins, a 28-year-old from Mentone, that isn't the case.
Blevins began training at Caudill's Tae Kwon Do in Januray of 2005 to change some things in his life. Blevins was having some health problems and knew he had to change his lifestyle.
He began training at Caudill's and now is ready to take things to the next level.
Blevins will take part in Elite Cage Fighting IX Nov. 4 at the American Veteran's Post 2000 in Bloomington. The Post, otherwise known as "The Gathering," will host a series of fights starting at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are currently available and can be purchased by calling 317-418-2614.
Blevins wanted to be more disciplined and improve himself not only for personal reasons but for his daughter, Kyla.
"The whole idea was to build a better daughter/father relationship," said Blevins.
His training has also led him to do charity work for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
"This has opened doors for me to help myself," saidl Blevins. "For the most part it was about me wanting to be a better person."
Though Blevins is gearing up for his first cage fight, he is no stranger to competition. He has been in five regional championships in Tae Kwon Do for weapons.
"I'm very confident and very nervous at the same time," said Blevins. "I want to win but I'll be just as proud if I don't win."
Blevins is quick to thank Susan Caudill for her training and his family for their support.
"Mrs. Caudill has been very supportive," said Blevins. "And my family is all the way behind me. They're afraid for me but they're behind me."
Blevins has earned a blue belt in Tae Kwon Do and will continue to work toward a black belt.
Cage Fighting is a sport that has ballooned in popularity over the past decade. With things like the Ultimate Fighting Championships and others of the like, cage fighting is more popular than ever.
And while the nature of the event is quite physical, Blevins insists it's a "family-oriented" event.
In fact, Blevins' main goal is to one day be a member of the UFC.
Between 700-800 people are expected at the event.
Blevins will turn 29 next month, and while he's a late comer to cage fighting, he feels that he's found his calling.
He has devoted his time to training and made it a full-time job.
While he's risking a lot to follow his dream, Blevins believes in it and himself.
"It's more than a hobby but less than a career at the moment," said Blevins. "It's my love, it's my life."
Besides Caudill, Blevins also expressed a lot of gratitude toward the student's at Caudill's along with his family and friends.
Blevins also recently made a cameo in the movie Bound By Blood, which is being produced by Impact Productions.
