Blaze Guts Syracuse Restaurant

SYRACUSE - Approximately 85 firefighters from six area fire departments battled a blaze Sunday at Porthole Bar & Grill, 9215 E. Hatchery Road, Syracuse, Sunday.

The business is on the southeeast corner of Lake Wawasee.

According to the Syracuse Fire Department, the fire is under investigation by the Syracuse Fire Department, Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office, Indiana State Police Department and the Syracuse Police Department. No damage estimate or cause has been determinted, but the business was gutted by the blaze.

The restaurant is owned and operated by Cornelius and Lynn Oswalt.

In addition to the Syracuse Fire Department responding, North Webster, Milford, and Cromwell fire departments provided full assist. Benton Township Fire Department provided tanker assistance and New Paris Fire Department was placed on standby.

The original call came in at 5 a.m. and the scene was cleared at 12:25 p.m.
