After 32 years with Warsaw Community Schools, Director of Special Services Deb Blatz is retiring effective June 30. During the school board meeting Monday night, Superintendent Dr. Craig Hintz recognized Blatz for her years of service and presented her with a plaque. Hintz said Blatz has been a “fabulous, fabulous member of this school corporation in a variety of roles.” She has been employed by WCS since 1982. Hintz stated Blatz is looking forward to the next chapter of her life. “Deb, thanks for everything. We’re really going to miss you. I’m going to miss working with you each and every day,” Hintz told her. Blatz said, “I’ve been just so proud to be here, all 32 years. They’ve just gone by so fast. I’ve loved every job I’ve done for Warsaw Schools. I loved being a principal. I’ve loved my job in special (education), the first time. I’ve loved it the second time. And I truly enjoy being a director more than I thought I would.” Earlier in the meeting, the school board recognized the unified track and field team that won the state title. “Just seeing things like what you just saw with the unified team – when I first heard about that at a regional meeting, I thought ‘that’s for Warsaw’ because that’s the way we do things. We are always out front, we are always the best. And the pride I have for Warsaw Schools just has no measure,” Blatz said. Assistant Director of Special Services Amy Hobbs will take over as director effective July 1.
