Forty-seven teams competed in the 2011 Community Quiz Bowl Tuesday night, but only one team could claim first place.
This year, the team from Biomet took home the honors, scoring 46 points. They captured the traveling trophy and was awarded a plaque.
The Biomet team members included Daniel Smith, Susan Bishop, Anatha Puthucode, Grant Cunningham and Gene Hawkins.
Second- and third-place teams also received a plaque.
In second place, with 45 points, was the Red Apple Grant team. On that team were Sarah Steele, Carla Milliman, Amanda Scroggs, Dan Wray and Andy Tomasik.
Third place was a tie between the Kosciusko County Bar Association and the Warsaw Community High School Administrators Team 1. However, since the bar association won first place in 2010, the tie-breaker rule led to the WCHS team taking the plaque.
Members of the WCHS Administrators Team 1 included Dan Kuhn, Troy Akers, John Snyder, Joe Conlon and Charlie Wappes.
The annual Community Quiz Bowl is sponsored by the Warsaw Education Foundation. Held in the WCHS Tiger Den, teacher Dave Baumgartner served as moderator.
There are four categories during the competition, with 15 questions in each category. The categories included Academics, 2010 Year in Review, Kosciusko County History and Food Trivia.
One question in the 2010 Year in Review category asked: The erupting volcano Eyjafallajokull, that brought European air travel to a standstill in 2010, is found in what country? There were four answers to choose from, with the correct answer being Iceland.
Lake City Bank sponsored the half-time break, which included cookies, vegetables and popcorn.
Maple Leaf Farms was the Valedictorian Level Sponsor for the Community Quiz Bowl. Honor Roll Level Sponsors included DePuy, Jansen Orthopaedic Clinic, Louis Dreyfus Commodities, Silveus Insurance, Pam and Todd Weingart and Zimmer.
During the Quiz Bowl, a silent auction also was held. Items for patrons to bid on ranged from flying lessons and algebra tutoring to Notre Dame vs. Michigan State football tickets.
