CHARLOTTE (N.C.) - Brian Ross, driver of the Biomet/Damon RV ARCA/Bondo Mar-Hyde Series racecar, qualified 35th but finished 12th in Wednesday's EasyCare 100 at Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.

Twenty-two-year-old South Bend native Ryan Newman, driving Roger Penske's Alltel-sponsored Ford, picked up his third career ARCA win in only his fourth start. Newman sat on the pole and led all but one of the 67 laps.

In qualifying for the pole, Newman, who will drive a full slate of Winston Cup races in 2002, shattered Tim Steele's track record of 182.340 miles per hour. Newman's qualifying speed also topped Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Winston Cup track record set in May.

Ross and his No. 67 Monte Carlo are currently in fourth place overall and still lead the rookie points standings over Iowa's Shawna Robinson, who finished last night's race in 13th after qualifying 14th.

The ARCA/Bondo Mar-Hyde Series will next stop at Talladega Superspeedway Oct. 14.
