MENTONE - Bill G. Griffis, 72, of 403 S. Walnut St., Burket, died at 1:50 a.m. Jan. 2, 2010, in his residence.

He was born May 29, 1937, in Plymouth, to Gilbert E. and Mary M. Ford Griffis. On Dec. 10, 1955, in Bourbon, he married Audrey E. Flory, who survives.

He graduated from Mentone High School in 1955. He worked for Dick Woods Builders, Mentone, for nearly 40 years, where their specialty was building and remodeling Lake City Banks in Northern Indiana. He was known as the project manager. Prior to construction work he worked at Burket Elevator, doing whatever duties needed to be done. He was a faithful Burket fireman for many years. He actually built the department building. He had also been past president of the Burket Town Board.

Also surviving are a son, Brad (and spouse Judy) Griffis, Mentone; four grandchildren, Damien Shriver, Jackie Apt, Billi Rieter and Tanner Griffis; a special friend, Rusty Rowland, Claypool; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (and spouse Larry) Boggs, Warsaw; and a brother, Bob Griffis, Claypool.

A public graveside memorial service will be at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Summit Chapel Cemetery, south east of Bourbon on Ind. 10, with Pastor Doug Lemon officiating.

Family and friends will gather after the service at the Tippecanoe Community Building on Ind. 331.

King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, is in charge of arrangements.
