Bikes At Concert

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

Last Friday night we went to the music program being held at Center Lake Park. A few adults had ridden their bikes for the program. One woman in particular had hers chained to the tree close to the chair she was sitting in. The bike was in no one's way nor was the chain hurting the tree.

One of the officers who ride a bike around the park told her she would have to move her bike to the bike rack down by the beach at the pavilion. She was a little upset about having to move it. He told some of the other adult bike riders to move their bikes, too. Later, some kids rode their bikes and just left them sitting. The officer never said a word to them or moved the bikes. He couldn't have missed them as he rode by them three times.

I realize there are park rules, but come on, this woman was sitting listening to the music, her bike chained to the tree and not bothering a soul. Can't there be some consideration in particular circumstances? Stop and think.
