Big Day For NWCPL June 6

Posted
NORTH WEBSTER - The North Webster Community Public Library has a big day coming up June 6, and the library wants the community to have plenty of time to prepare. The day is set up as a day of fun titled "Book It Into Summer." The day will begin at 8:15 a.m. with a fun 5K/1Mile walk/run. Participants will need to sign up in advance and can do so at the following Web sites: www.nweb.lib.in.us and www.runindiana.com

On that day, the library will have a bake sale, plant sale, games for kids and adults, and music by Solté, an Irish music group. All of this will take place at the library, and the proceeds will aid the library in its expansion endeavor.

The expansion involves relocating the children's department to the SPEC center adjacent to the library. The library will be engaged in a number of fundraising events this year for this expansion since state law prohibits use of library operating funds.

The Local History and Genealogy Center has several dates for May. On May 11, Genealogy Round Table will meet at 10 a.m. On May 18, Writer's Corner will meet at 10 a.m. Glean Team meets Wednesdays at 9 a.m.

The Children's Area has some events coming up in May. On May 9 at 11 a.m., a teachable moment titled "Help Your Little Sprout Grow" will be offered. This is a gardening project and the children will be kept very busy. Everyone will receive plant starts and seed packets, and door prizes such as books and gardening tools will be given away. Snacks will be provided.

A teen workshop featuring a magician will be offered May 18 at 6 p.m. This is a free workshop for all wanting to learn the art of magic.

Family Movie Night will be May 28 at 5 p.m.

It's not too soon to think about the children's Summer Reading Program. Registration will begin June 1.

As part of the Big Read sponsored by Kosciusko Literacy Services, the library will host a book discussion of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" May 4 at 5:30 p.m.

The library will be closed on Memorial Day, May 25.
