Big Brew

Posted
Members of Kosciusko Kettleheads, a local homebrew club, gathered at the home of Dana and Kathy Cone near Dewart Lake Saturday morning to brew beer.

The group celebrated the American Homebrewers Association Big Brew. It is a celebration of National Homebrew Day.

Each year homebrewers around the world invite family and friends to their brewing site on the first Saturday in May to celebrate the event. Everyone was encouraged to help out with the brew, enjoy the fun and joined in on a worldwide toast at noon.

Kosciusko County Kettleheads will partner with Cerulean in Winona Lake June 16 for a charity tasting event.

Pictured checking his brew is Kettlehead member Daren Deffenbaugh. Behind Deffengaugh is event host Dana Cone and pictured at rear are Kettlehead members (R) Dustin Hollar and Matt Livengood.

"We’re all about enjoying the craft and art of brewing, the socialization and trying each others’ beers," Deffenbaugh said of the club. "We don’t get caught up in matching styles and competitions."

Deffenbaugh brewed "Skid Mark" black lager. Hollar brewed a citra single-hop pale ale.

Brewer Chad Coxon brewed a clone of "Moosedrool" brown ale and the Cones brewed "Bucksnort" American brown ale.

All these beers and many others will be available for sampling at the Cerulean event and all proceeds from the event will go to charity. Last year’s event raised more than $1,000 for Combined Community Services.
