PLYMOUTH – Beverly Ruff Wyman, 79, passed away Feb. 17, 2012, in her residence in the company and care of her family and Center for Hospice volunteers.
She was born Nov. 28, 1932, in Plymouth, to Elson and Loretta Handy Ruff. On Sept. 5, 1953, at St. St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Plymouth, she married Jerry Wyman, who died in August 2001 after 48 years of marriage.
She met Jerry, the love of her life, and a Warsaw High School graduate, while in school. “It was a little odd,” she said, “being arch rival schools, but in that year, we discovered there were cute boys in Warsaw, too, and vice versa.”
She was diagnosed with bone cancer in October 2011 and came home to Plymouth from her residence in Bradenton, Fla., in January. There she loved to be during our cold winter months to visit the ocean so she could walk and shell the beach at her very special place in this world, South Lido Beach.
She said in a pre-arrangement interview, “I’ve had a blessed life. I had a wonderful husband and children. I have been blessed with a fantastic family and friends and I have no regrets.”
In 1950, she graduated from Plymouth High School, where she was a cheerleader and played the clarinet in the band.
She worked at Treat’s For Her for 15 years and at Mary’s Shoppe, Culver, part time for 15 more.
An enthusiastic golfer, she was a member of the Plymouth Country Club. She also was a member of Tri Kappa and was president of the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. She was a life-long member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Plymouth.
She was extremely talented and interested in all sorts of crafts. She enjoyed every kind of craft that used her dexterous and skillful hands. She was a seamstress, making her daughter’s clothes as well as her own and creating bridesmaids, prom dresses as well as dance costumes. She was also a collector of angels which showed greatly in her home. To her family and dear friends she was an “angel” on earth, always putting others before herself. It’s a comfort to her family now that she truly has her “wings” so she may continue to watch over us all.
Always energetic, sunny and positive, she will be greatly missed by her two children, Kimberly Miller (and Steve McCombs), Covington, and Thad Wyman (and Lisa Tyler), Plymouth; two grandchildren, Lauren Herrmann, Portland, Ore., and Courtney Herrmann, Bloomington; a brother and his children, Bud (and spouse Rusty) Ruff, Marco Island, Fla., and Renee, Shelly, Ramona and Steven Ruff; and an aunt, Joy Klapp, Winterhaven, Fla.
A celebration of her life will be from 2 to 4 Saturday at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St. Plymouth. ***** Memorials may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 112 S. Center St., Suite C, Plymouth, IN 46563; or The Boys & Girls Club of Marshall County, 314 E. Jefferson St., Plymouth, IN 46563, so that others may benefit.
