Beverly Ann Barden, 80, of Grace Village Retirement Community, died at 6:55 a.m. Dec. 29, 2008, at Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake.
She was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Fort Wayne, to Charles Clifford and Hazel Vera Merrill Coverdale. On Dec. 4, 1954, in Fort Wayne, she married Lloyd C. Barden, who died Nov. 29, 2008.
She was a 1954 Graduate of South Side High School, Fort Wayne, and a graduate of Indiana University, receiving a bachelor's degree in chemistry, physics and physiology. She completed nurses training at Wesley Memorial Hospital, a part of Northwestern University, in Chicago. She worked as a nurse for more than 50 years. She worked at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, for 1-1/2 years; Espanola Hospital, New Mexico, for 10-1/2 years; the Iren Byron TB Sanitarium, Fort Wayne; and several nursing homes. She spent the last 10 years of her career working at Park Center Inpatient Unit. She was a lifetime member of South Wayne United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne, where she was the District Officer for eight years for the Fort Wayne United Methodist Women. She was in the Pro-To-Study Club for 30 years. She was a resident of Kosciusko County since 2001 when she moved to Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake.
Surviving are three sons: Kenneth E. (and spouse Genny) Barden, Philippines; Samuel C. (and spouse Linda) Barden, Sydney, Australia; and Thomas L. Barden, Raytown, Mo.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one brother, Dr. Keith Coverdale, Kentucky.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Chaplain Glenn Byers officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton.
