Betty Lucille Alderfer Schuman, Winona Lake, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw, at the age of 79.
She was born Jan. 28, 1939, in Argos, to Harold Swihart and Helen M. Miller Swihart. On June 28, 1957, she was married to Forest “Frosty” Alderfer; he passed away on June 18, 1987. Betty re-married on Sept. 30, 2000, to Larry Schuman; he preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 2005.
She was a 1957 graduate of Plymouth High School and was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 54 years. Betty worked at Owen’s grocery store in Warsaw for a number of years and worked as an administrator for 20 years at First National Bank.
She enjoyed gardening and sewing. Over the years she had sewn many projects for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be forever loved and dearly missed.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Terri (husband Pat) Musto, Lakeville, Minn., and Barb (husband Chris) Ballinger, Warsaw. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Gina Musto, Trevor Ballinger and Jeffrey Ballinger; four great-grandchildren: Laila, Olivia, Ellie and Rhett Ballinger; and 14 stepgrandchildren. She also leaves behind five stepchildren: Keith, Duane, Nelson and Chris Schuman, and Jana MacFarlane; brother, Richard Swihart, Machesney Park, Ill.; and half brother, Rex Tumbleson, South Bend.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth, and officiated by the Rev. Kip Cone.
