SYRACUSE — Betty Louise Goodspeed, 92, Syracuse, passed away at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse. She passed away on what would have been her 75th wedding anniversary to her late husband, Vaughn.
She was born April 22, 1925, in Hartford City, to Walter Madison and Gracie Pauline Spaulding Dutro.
She attended Roll High School. On Aug. 16, 1942, in Hartford City, she married Vaughn Dale Goodspeed, who preceded her on June 18, 1995.
She grew up and lived in Hartford City until the mid-1960s, and lived a few years in Portage before moving to Syracuse in 1972. Betty and her husband were the owner/operators of V. Goodspeed Inc., Cromwell, from 1974-1992.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Martha’s Circle, Cromwell, and Wawasee Property Owners Association, Syracuse.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Terry) Shields, Hartford City, and Tammie (Guy) Hursey, Kimmell; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandson; one great-great-grandson; a daughter in law, Rhonda (Steve) Hurst, Carmel; and a sister in law, Claretta Dutro, Hartford City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard Goodspeed; great-granddaughter, Lauren Shields; sister, Carol Hawk; and brother, Francis Dutro.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at the funeral home with Pastor Marilyn Gebert officiating. Committal services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Gardens of Memory Chapel, 10703 N. Ind. 3, Muncie.
