Betty Jane Lesh, 90, of 811 E. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw, died at 2 p.m. Jan. 12, 2010, in Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake.
She was born Oct. 17, 1919, to Harley and Nerla Mae Hinsey Walters. On March 15, 1943, she married Richard Arthur Lesh.
She grew up on a farm between Claypool and Silver Lake, the fourth of seven children. After graduation from high school in Akron, she attended beauty school in Warsaw. She taught in beauty schools in Warsaw and South Bend before traveling to Kissimmee, Fla., where Richard was stationed during World War II. Before Richard deployed with the U.S. Army Air Force to the Philippines, they lived in Fresno, Calif., where their only son was born. After the war, they settled in Warsaw, where she operated a beauty shop for 60 years. She was a Cub Scout den mother and enjoyed local school sporting events. As a member of the United Trinity Methodist Church, Warsaw, since 1946, she taught Sunday school and Bible study classes, and served as secretary of the board of trustees for 25 years. An avid gardener, she loved growing flowers.
The family thanks Betty's friends and the staff at Grace Village who cared for her so lovingly.
Surviving is a son, Dick (and spouse Jill Sulivan) Lesh, Bloomington; a brother, Richard Walters, Osceola; two grandsons, Mark (and spouse Emily Templin) Lesh, Denver, Colo., and Douglas (and spouse Korin Gibson) Lesh, Darwin, Australia; and a great-granddaughter, Kira Lesh, Darwin.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 23 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw.
McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
