NORTH WEBSTER — Betty J. Smith, 85, Fort Wayne, formerly of Leesburg, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Bethlehem Woods Nursing Home, Fort Wayne.
She was born April 6, 1932, in Mount Sterling, Ky., to Emmons and Ollie Belle Ensor McVey.
She attended Mapleton Public Schools in Mount Sterling, Ky., and on July 11, 1975, in Pierceton, she married Paul Smith, who preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 2012.
She moved to the Leesburg area in 1982 from Marion before moving to Fort Wayne in 2013. She worked at Allied Paper Factory, Marion, for 20-plus years and Stacy’s Sports Inn, Leesburg, for 27 years.
She was a member of the Church of God and American Legion Auxiliary Post 253, both in North Webster.
She is survived by a daughter, Paula (Kim) Martin, Wabash; three grandchildren: Amy (Tim) Kuhn, Leesburg; Kelley Miller, Syracuse; and Amanda (Justin) Younce, Wabash; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Davis, Mount Sterling; and a brother, Joe (Judy) McVey, Mount Sterling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Donna Kern; sister, Lela Nichols; and two brothers, Floyd and William McVey.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and C.R. 500N, North Webster.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, in the funeral home, with Pastor Jeff Boyer officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Gardens of Memory, 11201 S Marion Road 35, Marion.
