Editor, Times-Union: You own an expensive car and you are in an accident which results in several thousand dollars in damage to your vehicle. You discover that your insurance has lapsed and you are on the hooks for the repairs. Luckily, you have two very nice neighbors who separately approach you and volunteer to repair your car. The first, despite being sincere, caring, and willing to perform the work, has no experience in auto repair. The second, being equally caring, has worked in the auto repair business for many years, has a great reputation and knows what is involved in getting the job done. He knows car repair. You have a choice to make involving the person that you choose to do the repairs. Would you choose inexperience over experience when it comes to the task of restoring your beloved car? I don’t think so. You would make the better choice and choose the experienced neighbor. May 3 is Primary Election Day and, as voters in Kosciusko County, we will be faced with a series of choices. One in particular will be to choose candidates for the Kosciusko County Council. On the Republican ballot, there will be six candidates running for the three large seats. While I do not know all of the six candidates personally, I do believe that they are all sincere in their desire to faithfully serve the citizens of Kosciusko County. That said, I do know Bob Sanders, Sue Ann Mitchell and Ron Robinson personally, having worked with each of them in county government for many years. Sanders has been a successful businessman in Warsaw and has been a very actively engaged and committed member of Kosciusko County Council since 2004, a period of 11 years. He is currently president of the Council and has served that position for the last three years. Mitchell was Tippecanoe Township Assessor from 1983 through 1994; Kosciusko County Assessor from 1995 through 1998; Kosciusko County Y2K Coordinator in 1999; Kosciusko County Auditor from 2000 through 2007; and Kosciusko County Treasurer from 2009 to the present. almost 30 years of public service. Robinson was Kosciusko County Sheriff from 1987 through 1990, Chief Deputy from 1990 through 1994 and has been Kosciusko County Administrator from 1994 to the present, a period of over 22 years. Simply put, these three candidates are very experienced in dealing with most, if not all, aspects of county government. When you consider that the county council has the responsibility of managing an annual budget of $15,500,000 of your tax dollars, it would seem that it would be the better choice to trust that task to the hands of very experienced individuals, much like you would have done with your own car repair. Again, there are choices and then there are better choices. Make the better choices, choose experience. Support Bob Sanders, Sue Ann Mitchell and Ron Robinson for council at large. James C.
