Berniece Mayhugh, 89, Warsaw, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Feb. 19, 2014, in her residence. She was born Jan. 12, 1925, in Floyd County, Ky., to Riley and Dona Shepherd. On Dec. 20, 1947, in South Bend, she was united in marriage to Richard K. Mayhugh, who preceded her in death Aug. 1, 2010. She moved to Kosciusko County where she lived most of her life. She worked for Gatke Inc. and Da-Lite Screen, Warsaw, and attended New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Warsaw. Most days, she could be found in her kitchen cooking, baking or making root beer floats or sitting in her rocker, quilting. Her life’s pursuit was of giving the best of what she had to others. She will be remembered for her love of God, family and friends and her zest for life. Surviving are a daughter, Connie (and spouse Garry) Himes, Warsaw; two grandchildren, Bethany (and spouse James) Weddell, Noblesville, and Matthew (and spouse Rochelle) Himes, Warsaw; five great-grandchildren: Alexis, Morgan and Nolan Himes, all of Warsaw, and Alexander and Katelyn Weddell, both of Noblesville; and three sisters, Allie Hicks, Sebring, Fla., Mary (and spouse Dan) Murphy, Greeley, Colo., and Fanny (and spouse Robert) Cozzi, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Odis, Bill, Malcome and Virgil Shepherd, and two sisters: Nearle Smith and Maudie Shepherd. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor David Cripe officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
