Bernice E. ReeseAKRON – Bernice E. Reese, 92, of Akron, Ind., passed at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.

She was born on Sept. 20, 1927, in Tiosa, Fulton County, Ind., to the late Alva and Hazel Kindig Thompson. She was married on Oct. 8, 1947, in Rochester, to G. Wayne Reese, who preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2019.

She had worked for Hart Schaffner Marx of Rochester, as well as being a homemaker. She was a graduate of Argos High School. She attended the Akron Church of God for many years and, along with her husband, was involved in bus ministry. Also, more recently, she had attended the Athens Community Church.

She and her husband also enjoyed square dancing and wintering in Florida, which they have done for over 30 years.

Survivors include her sons: Orville and wife Julie Reese, Akron; and Randy and wife Roseanna Reese, Silver Lake; daughter-in-law, Laura Reese, Akron; foster daughters: Teresa Dosh, Albuquerque, N.M.; and Barbara Oster, Seattle, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nine foreign exchange students; and a sister, Erma Ellinger, Bourbon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Hazel Thompson; husband, Wayne Reese; son, Calvin Reese in 2000; sisters, Bertha Jane Thacker and Eva Lawmaster; and brothers, Eldon, Charles and Dale Thompson.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Wanda Carter and Pastor Luke Vasicek of the Athens Community Church officiating. The burial will take place following the service in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
