Bernard M. 'Ben' Fick

SYRACUSE - Bernard M. "Ben" Fick, 67, Syracuse, died at 10:22 p.m. Feb. 10, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne.

He was born Dec. 24, 1943, in Oak Park, Ill., to Bernard Henry and Faye Manges Fick. On July 12, 1985, in Springfield, Ohio, he married Johnnie M. Willis, who survives.

He graduated in 1962 from East Leyden High School, Franklin Park, Ill., and attended the University of Maryland. He was a Vietnam Air Force veteran. He lived in the Poconos in Pennsylvania from 1968 to 1973 and then moved to the Warsaw and Syracuse area.

He retired in 2007 from Roadway Express Inc., Chicago, Ill., after nine years of service. He was formerly employed at Interstate Trucking in Tacoma, Wash., for two years; Schneider Trucking, Green Bay, Wis., for four years; Summit Coaches, Fort Wayne, for five years; Baush & Lomb for seven years; and Megar Scientific Inc., Ann Arbor, Mich., for six years. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse.

Also surviving are four daughters: Amy Joy (and spouse Michael) Hood, Depauw; Joy Goble, Warsaw; Sonya Fick, Crown Point; Tiffany Fick, Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Mark (and spouse Millie) Fick and Justin Fick, all of Syracuse; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Edward (and spouse Elaine) Fick, Austin, Texas, and Donald Fick, Gambrills, Md. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvary United Methodist Church with the Revs. David Herr and Dave Marty officiating.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse.
