Ben Folds, Michael Feinstein Playing With Philharmonic

Posted
FORT WAYNE - The Fort Wayne Philharmonic is planning a Sweetwater Pops Series opening unlike any other.

On Oct. 3 at 8 p.m., the philharmonic's Contemporary Series features Ben Folds, a singer-songwriter and the former frontman of the musical group Ben Folds Five. He is widely acclaimed for his prowess as a pianist, composer, songwriter, performer and multi-instrumentalist.Fairly new to performing with the symphony world, Ben Folds has performed with a handful of orchestras, such as the Boston Pops and a recent performance with the Nashville Symphony. The Philharmonic's resident arranger, Adrian Mann, will be arranging some of Folds' music into orchestrations at Folds' request.

This concert is sponsored by Wells Fargo Insurance Services, Steel Dynamics Inc., Fort Wayne Roofing, Shawnee Construction and Mike and Gretchen Gouloff.

On Oct. 4 at 8 p.m., the Traditional Series welcomes Michael Feinstein, vocalist and pianist, nationally recognized for his commitment to American popular song.

Next year will mark the 25th anniversary of the four-time Grammy nominee's professional debut. Feinstein's new album, "The Sinatra Project", will be his 24th release.

Arguably the world's foremost, and certainly the most passionate and indefatigable, anthropologist and archivist of the Great American Songbook, Feinstein has dedicated his career to preserving, protecting and promoting the work of the great tunesmiths, ranging from household names like Gershwin, Porter and Berlin to such lesser-known craftsmen as Hugh Martin and Burton Lane. The Library of Congress invited him to serve on its elite National Sound Recording Advisory Board. This concert is sponsored by Franklin Electric.

Tickets for both concerts start at only $20 and can be purchased by calling the Philharmonic Box Office at 260-481-0777 or online at www.fwphil.org

Now performing its 65th season, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic is conducting its music director search season. The Fort Wayne Philharmonic is a member of the League of American Orchestras and a funded member of Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, the Indiana Arts Commission and National Endowment for the Arts.
