Bell Museum Sets Open House Saturday

Posted

MENTONE - The Lawrence D. Bell Aircraft Museum is presenting a "Show In Progress" open house Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The museum is at 210 S. Oak St., Mentone.

The purpose of the show is to present the accomplishments achieved during the past year.

A 47-G helicopter has been restored to represent the personal helicopter of Mentone native Lawrence D. Bell, who owned Bell Aircraft Corp., Buffalo, N.Y. The helicopter will be sent to Texas and is only on display at the museum a short time. The recently erected hangar area will house aircraft of the Bell era as well as his personal memorabilia.

Also on display are items depicting the history of Mentone and the surrounding area. Bob Herendeen's trophies and awards are also on display.

The Dr. Thomas J. Clutter collection is being established. A committee continues to search for and accept articles about Mentone.

For a donation, visitors will be provided a light lunch.

The public is invited to come and observe the growth and expansion of the museum.

The goal of the board of directors is to educate people about Bell's accomplishments, share and preserve his collection and Mentone history.
