NORTH MANCHESTER - Chapter DK, North Manchester, announced Lynn Beery, North Manchester, was awarded a PEO Continuing Education grant of $2,000 on Aug. 19.
Beery is a nursing student at the University of Saint Francis, Fort Wayne, and will complete her studies for an associate degree in December 2009.
The Program for Continuing Education was established in 1973 to provide need-based grants to women in the United States and Canada whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to return to school to support themselves and/or their families.
Applicants are recommended and sponsored by PEO chapters.The PEO Sisterhood, founded Jan. 21, 1869, at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is a philanthropic and educational organization interested in bringing to women increased opportunities for higher education.
Local chapter president is Jean Erickson, and members of the local POE committee are Kathy Hawkins and Gay Ingold.
