Beacon Credit Union presented $2,500 to five organizations this morning for the fifth year of its Project Spotlight program. More than 4,500 people in Kosciusko voted on the recipients of the donations in August and September, said Chandra Butler, marketing coordinator. She noted the credit union chose five recipients this year instead of three to mark the fifth anniversary of the program. The winners this year are: First place, $1,000 – Furry Friends of Indiana, a non-profit home-based rescue which accepts orphaned and abandoned kittens under 6 weeks old for fostering until they are old enough for adoption. Second and third, $500 – Community Closet and Animal Welfare League. Community Closet is a ministry of Warsaw First United Methodist Church which provides paper products, personal care items and housekeeping products not covered by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program to area individuals and families in need. Animal Welfare League is a pet shelter with programs for retirement homes and schools and which is currently working on a new and improved home. Fourth and fifth, $250 – Isaiah 11 Ministry and Heartline Pregnancy Center. Isaiah 11 is a non-profit which provides counseling for children and families, especially those affected by adoption/foster care and special needs, and also serves victims of trauma. Its ministry is also an animal rescue, and it provides tutoring, homeschooling, educational advocacy and support groups for parents. Heartline is dedicated to the Christ-centered service of individuals throughout the greater Warsaw area who are involved with an unplanned pregnancy, according to information from Beacon. Heartline provides free, confidential services such as pregnancy testing, ultrasound, education, sexually transmitted infection testing and the BABE Boutique.
