Atwood Fire Department responded to a house fire just before noon Sunday at 3802 W. CR 100N, Atwood. According to Atwood Fire Chief Mike Harmon, the resident, Jim Evans, was inside the home and his young son was outside in the yard playing with a BB gun. When the boy fired the gun, Harmon said it threw a spark into dry shrubbery, which caused the home to catch fire. Evans and his son escaped without injury though the home is close to a total loss. Harmon said it took nearly an hour to control the blaze and Atwood was assisted by Etna Green, Warsaw and Winona Lake Fire Departments.
